How to Measure Website Performance

Your website is often the first thing a prospective customer sees when they are first introduced to your brand. Even more interesting, any single page of your website could act as the point of introduction with your brand too. The nature of internet search engine algorithms is the reason why the paradigm has shifted.

Often if a user will search for some kind of product or service they use Google’s search engine. Most businesses offer multiple products and services in the market, which means sometimes a product specific page within your site will rank higher than the home page of your site within search results.

This reality is the reason why it is so important brands measure their website performance holistically to learn what is working. The most effective tool for measuring website performance in the market is Google Analytics, and it is completely free to use. Here is how you can add Google Analytics to your website and measuring your website’s performance:

  1. Visit the Google Analytics website
  2. Sign in with your Google account or create a new one when prompted
  3. Sign up for Google Analytics and enter your information
  4. Copy the tracking code provided and paste it as the first item under the <head> tag of every page on your site

After a few hours pass your site will begin capturing a huge amount of information which will get you on your way to capturing Real-Time, Audience, Acquisition, Behavior, and Conversion reports.
